Honesty...the Best Policy?

In the past couple of months my blogs have gotten exceedingly more personal. As vulnerable as I felt at first, the more open my posts tend to be, the better the response. My hits have quadrupled and then some. (Ka-ching!)

With this meteoric rise (what? That is what they'll say someday) have come some hurt feelings. The fact is, I do exaggerate and embellish in my writing, but I do the same in real life. I'm dramatic, I exaggerate, and I'm animated. It's just who I am. This is a blog about my life from my perspective. And from my perspective, if you don't want me to discuss something you did or said to me, then don't do it in the first place. I never intentionally post things on here to hurt someone's feelings, but instead to draw humor from the absurd situations I seem to find myself in. (I seem to find myself in them more frequently than most.)

With that, I deleted my post from today about my date. I consider myself an open book, but I realize that there are other people involved who might not be as eager for me to share the details of their lives, or my opinions about them.

As always, I'm a work in progress. To other bloggers...how do you find a balance between honesty and privacy?

And remember: if you don't have anything nice to say, sit next to me. (Just make sure you say it's off the record.)

@ Miss T OF COURSE YOU DIDN'T! Take that back immediately. I always loooove your comments. It was the people I was actually blogging about who were getting offended.

Seriously. Keep commenting. I need you.

Phhhheeeeewwwww! being the child of a narcissist means that I am always apologetic and take blame on shoulders constantly. But lets not go there again....
I think its your blog, you can write what you damn well like. Your theory of asking 3 things at the end of time spent would be an amazing experiment. I know some people who would say to me "sorry - what was your name again?"

keep on postin'!

This world needs more biotches like you - girls who don't get walked all over, speak the truth (and their minds), but still have warm, tender hearts!

Keep on preaching girl! I LOVE IT!

I hope you continue to offend the crap out of hypersensitive twenty-somethings. Your blog makes others aware of their actions, and how said actions are perceived by others. Without this harsh reality stuck in their faces, people will continue their childish/ careless/ idiotic behavior and the world will be an awful place. Keep on keeping on. The world needs it- badly.

My only concern with you last post was that I was hoping you knew this person before inviting them into your home. :) Honestly, is very hard!! There are tons of post I would love to do and then I remember that other people actually read my blog sometimes and my thoughts/opinions might hurt their feelings. Oh well. :)

Not a blogger but I am a good friend... so all I can say is I'm glad I read the post before you took it down. Love you tons, don't edit your thoughts or you will be more sesame street than haughty by nature. And hey, call a sistah back!

girlfriiiend, I totally hear ya. and as you know, I barely posted anything at all on my blog about my shitty breakup.... just about THE e-mail. I do what my gut tells me, and usually, it's pretty right.

it did, however, get my defriended and blocked on facebook.

whatevaaaa.. peace out. ;)

p.s. friend me on FB! I posted our pic-chas!

Sometimes, people forget the difference between a blog (basically an editorial on one's life and thoughts that doesn't have many rules), and what we are used to reading in the papers (which usually has to have proven facts, stays within parameters, etc). I would say, if you would tell them to their face, then why not blog about it? Just keep in mind that it may be more like telling them to their face, in a crowded room...where people are actually enthralled in what you have to say about them.

I agree with Shae that you shouldn't edit your opinions too much though!

@ Jules As always, so wise. My problem is that I DON'T say things to people's faces, but I'm more than happy to blog about it. I need to work on that.
