Facebook Envy: Totally Legit

I need to stay away from Facebook. And magazines. Earlier this spring, CBS news had a story about Facebook envy: a condition in which users feel dejected after seeing happy updates from friends.

Though I laughed at the time, I'm here to tell you shocking news.

It's real, ya'll

As a 25 year old sitting in her dorm room and writing this, it's downright depressing to stalk my 1,405 "friends" and see how much fun everyone is having this summer. Let me put it this way:

Your summer? Pools, lakes, barbeques, beer, vacations, adventures, bikinis

My summer? Summer school, dining hall food, lesson planning, dorm living, beer, 110 degree heat indexes, occasional (vegetarian!) barbeques.

I guess I shouldn't complain as long as there's beer. But still.

After I took my Facebook hiatus, I somehow decided it was a good choice to buy the July issue of Glamour. Sure, it was full of informative articles, if you're doing any of the aforementioned "fun" summer activities. I don't really need articles about getting safe sun, since I'm never really outdoors, but it serves as a painful reminder that there are people doing things that involve prolonged sun exposure. I need articles like "How to Apply Makeup in Florescent Light" and "Easy Hairdos When You Haven't Had Hot Water Since Thursday", but I have a feeling that most people reading Glamour aren't in the same boat.

Six more days until I'm back in North Carolina and my own bed. Let the countdown begin...

Seems like you've been there forever! You must be so excited to be going home in less than a week.

I don't suffer from FB envy, but I do have blog envy from time to time. There are so many talented bloggers with gorgeous photos and clever posts - it's easy to feel a little jealous once in a while.

Throw yourself a week long pool party when you get home! Ahh, now I want to go layout by the pool, too. I think I got facebook envy through you-ha!

Hang in there Ens! You are going to be a great teacher next year and this will all be worth it. Think of the young minds you'll be shaping and all the lives you'll change.
So so so proud of you!

oh my gosh.. FB envy is completely legit. I'm actually getting more and more angry about the friends getting ENGAGED than the friends having more fun than me.

stop falling in love without me, ya jerks.

This is suh a great post, and it could not be truer. Rather than get FB envy I usually get my jealousy quota filled via Blogger. It's hard to hear about all these people enjoying their engagements/laying out by the pool/ lounging about in beautifully laid out posts. Just remember that good things happen to those who wait :-)

I agree with Adrienne - it is blog envy for me.....it just looks like it takes so much time! And the photos.....and all the clever entries. I am looking forward to you returning home, since I hope it will mean some stories told of your time in Mississippi......
